It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our dear father and grandfather. Norman “Norm” Nathan Oswald Bonin passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on June 12, 2025, in Calgary. Norm leaves to mourn his two sons; Norman Stuart (Luisa) and Steven (Antoine); as well as his beloved grandsons Benjamin and Matthew. He is also survived by one sister Norma Heinz and numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was predeceased by his parents Benvenuto and Justina and siblings Ruth, Rose, Isabelle and Ernie. He was also predeceased by his long-time companion Esther Wagner and the boys’ mother Alice Fischer. Norm was born in 1934 in Medicine Hat to his father Benvenuto who immigrated to Canada from Northern Italy and his mother Justina, of strong German heritage. Mother, father and their six children grew up in a small house on Elm Street in Medicine Hat. The stories of growing up in the Hat and during the Second World War are endless. Dad’s true passions growing up were hockey (Tigers alumnus 1950s, “original six” NHL teams), fastball and a little later, cars. Many of these passions he carried on with for most of his life. Dad met our mom Alice in high school in the 50s and married in 1957. They lived for some time on Riverside, before leaving their respective glass factory and flour mill jobs to move to Ralston, where dad started a long career as The Queen’s Printer at Defense Research Establishment Suffield (D.R.E.S.). In 1964, they started a family welcoming first Stuart, then Steven in 1966. These years were filled with a wonderful life in Ralston / CFB Suffield that was filled with frequent camping trips, extensive hockey playing and coaching and the endless activities only available in a small, remote, tight-knit scientific and military community in the middle of the prairie. In 1977, we all moved to Medicine Hat where Dad finally retired in April 1995. After our parents divorced, he met Esther and they spent many happy years together while living separately before taking the big step to move together to Chinook Village where they kept an impeccable home and entertained their families. Over the years, Esther’s family became Dad’s family and they cared for each other deeply. The passing of Esther and Alice in 2024 had a profound impact on him. Dad loved his boys and would do anything to make sure their lives were the best they could be. His yard and home were always kept immaculately. He loved cooking, including Grandpa Bonin’s famous spaghetti sauce and sauerkraut and knipfla, which were always made in batches “big enough to feed an army”. He was always watching hockey and loved attending the Tiger’s games whenever he could. He looked forward to coffee with, and was a proud member of, the “Suffield Old Boys Club” having maintained many life-long friendships from his time living in Ralston and working at D.R.E.S. He loved his sisters and brother deeply, despite the fact that the family was dispersed across Alberta. We were so fortunate to have had our dad in our lives for so long, but now it is time for him to rest. Thanks to the many friends and family who stayed connected and in his life over the decades. We are especially grateful to the many health care professionals who cared for our dad in his final days in Medicine Hat and at the Foothills palliative care unit in Calgary. Rest in peace Dad. Thank you for everything. We love you. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so one our prior to the service. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTRE on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed. Those who wish to attend virtually, please visit Norm’s obituary page on our website, for the link. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. ROBERT “BOB” JOSEPH MARSHALL Nov 3, 1946 – Nov 30, 2022
How do you sum up a man’s life? Well…a man’s life is the sum of his experiences. In Bob’s younger days, he was a Saskatchewan farm boy, he worked for the CPR, went to university, became a radiological technician, and traveled and worked in the farthest regions of Canada on the TB League. He met and married his wife Debbie of 49 years, raised a remarkable young man, Richard (deceased), set up Radiology Departments, and managed two Radiology Departments in Saskatchewan. Robert moved to Medicine Hat with Debbie and worked for the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital until his retirement. He then worked security at the airport through the Core of Commissionaires. Bob’s true love was his horse, Lady. Deb came a close second. He had a gift with horses and found a few that needed that special understanding. These horses lived a life of ease on the acreage they owned. He often said he had a wonderful life despite the ailments that plagued him in later years. I guess that is all we can hope for. So now, we say a fond farewell; his life is done. Think kindly of him with happy memories. God bless you all. Please join us for a Come and Go Celebration of Bob’s life that will be held at Saamis Creekside Centre, 11 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5, on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Condolences may be sent through http://www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Bob Marshall. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to

HAROLD JACKLE 1930 - 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Louis Jackle. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep in Medicine Hat, Alberta on June 20, 2025, at the age of 95 years. Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on April 18, 1930, Harold was the second of four children to Louis and Caroline (nee Glass). He was raised on the farmstead at Fox Valley, SK and his upbringing was molded by the hard work that was needed to be done by all to make a farm successful in that area. Although the work was difficult, it was balanced by the realization that there was joy to be found as well. Church activities, community involvement, family gatherings and friendships offset the stresses of creating a successful farming operation. It was at one of the ball tournaments organized by the Church, that he met a beautiful blonde girl from Leader, SK. It is accurate to say that it was love at first sight and Dad married Irene Grace Wenzel on November 30, 1956. They celebrated the birth of Cheryl in 1960, Marlan in 1963 and Ken in 1965. Their love and commitment to each other was constant, steadfast and an inspiration to us all until her passing on September 29, 2021. They were married for nearly 65 years. Harold is survived by his two sons: Marlan and his three children, Daniel (Tia), Sherene (Nico) and Travis (Robin); and Ken (Phillane) and their two daughters, Tiara and Tenille (Matt). He is also survived by Cheryl’s three sons; Robert (Kirstie) Evans, Marlan (Jenna) Evans and their children, Noah and Charlotte, Michael Evans and Cheryl’s extended family. He also leaves to mourn his two brothers-in-law, Bert (Arlene) Wenzel and Doug (Dorie) Wenzel along with many, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene; his cherished daughter, Cheryl Triskle (2015); his sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Bruce Martin; his brother, Edwin (Margaret) and his brother, Gordon (Anita). He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Art Wenzel, Melvin and Ella Wenzel, Reuben and Ellie Wenzel, Merrel Wenzel, Rod (Diane) Wenzel and his sister-in-law Jean (Max) Brautigam. He loved and treasured all of these people along with all the friends he gathered on his life’s journey. Family was very important to Dad. Mom and Dad accumulated many friends over the years. Having good times with them was very important for both, especially the celebrated card games with close neighbours, which became a tradition after the farm received an inch of rain. Dad was a true farmer, heart and soul. He lived his life in tune with the weather, the earth and with the Spirit all around him. He was always thankful for the bounty the farm provided, both for our family and for the world. Dad believed that one should always use their talents to improve the lives of others. Because of this, he offered his service whenever he could. He served as Director of the United Grain Growers Local 574 for 27 consecutive years and as chair for 16 years. He proudly served the R.M. of Fox Valley #171 for 29 years. During this time, he was the Deputy Reeve for 11 years and the Agricultural Councilor for the R.M. for 17 years. He is recognized as the longest serving councilor for the R.M. since its incorporation in 1913. He was the Sub-Unit Director of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities for 4 years as well. He organized the first Spring Rate Payers meeting in Fox Valley and then chaired the meetings for the next 16 years; represented the R.M. on the Agriculture Development and Diversification Board; was on the Chinook Regional Library Board and the Maple Creek Union Hospital Board; was a founding member of the first rural snowplow club in the R.M. and was the Director of the Fox Valley Rural Telephone Company until it was taken over by Sasktel. He was active in the 4-H Club and was a Crop Reporter for decades and also served as an Elder and President for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fox Valley. He loved to sing; was a member of the Golden Prairie Community Choir and was also happy to volunteer at the many events that were held in Fox Valley. His commitment to community service can only be described as exemplary. He never sought recognition for this service and was greatly humbled to receive the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal for his service in 1993. When he received this prestigious award, he commented, “every community is made up of a wheel and a hub and I was simply a spoke in the wheel. God’s help from above has helped me carry out this work.” Perhaps to counter the quietness of an empty nest, Dad developed incredible skills in wheat weaving, willow basket weaving and the making of willow furniture. His wheat weaving skills can only be described as incredible. Examples of his work are in the Canadian embassy in Germany and were in the head offices of both the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the United Grain Growers in Regina. He was commissioned by the University of Saskatchewan to create the gifts given to the ten keynote speakers for the 1997 International Symposium on Wheat Genetics. He also won several first place ribbons for wheat weaving and for his wheat sheaves at Agribition in Regina. His teardrop ornaments, stars and other decorations adorn many Christmas trees of his family and friends and his windmills, house blessings, sunbursts and other creations decorate many homes. Some of his favorite memories were of taking his grandchildren to find the perfect grove of willows to cut for his amazing creations or teach them how to weave a basket or take them to the pasture to collect flowers. These are the memories his grandchildren will cherish as well. Even after his sight, hearing and many of his artistic skills were taken away by his strokes in 2011, he was still able to weave some beautiful decorations and braid innumerable ropes that were either very intricate or incredibly strong. He struggled at first but his innate skill came to the fore and resulted in the many treasured heirlooms and precious gifts that he created after he and Mom moved to Medicine Hat. These items also decorate the many homes where he so generously gave them. Psalm 81-6: “I relieved his shoulder of the burden, His hands were freed of the basket. You called in trouble and I reassured you. I answered you in the hiding place of thunder.” Matthew 11, v 6: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Dad is at peace. The family would like to thank all the staff at River Ridge Seniors Village for the many years of care and support they gave Dad. He was always thankful for the assistance and friendly help that was always available. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Lutheran Hour, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medicine Hat or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Harold’s life are being arranged and details will be provided once they are complete. DANA TOLE 1969 - 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected and tragic passing of Dana Mastel-Tole on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the age of 56 years. On May 31st, Dana suffered a severe brain aneurysm and despite her strength, the damage was too extensive. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Dana was intelligent, beautiful, witty, and selfless. She had a sharp sense of humour and an unwavering love for her family and her beloved dogs. Passionate about her hobbies, humble in her accomplishments, and always ready to lend a hand, Dana lived with grace, integrity, and a heart full of kindness. Meticulous and detail-oriented, she approached every challenge with curiosity, adaptability, and a desire to learn. Born in Medicine Hat on June 3, 1969, Dana graduated from McCoy High School in 1987 and went on to pursue a lifetime largely dedicated to caring for others. She completed the Medical Laboratory and Sciences program at SAIT in 1989, earned her 3rd and 4th Class Power Engineering certificate from Medicine Hat College in 1993, and received her Dental Hygiene diploma from the University of Alberta in 1996. Dana worked as a dental hygienist for over 20 years before joining her brother’s medical practice in Crescent Heights as a medical office assistant. Over the past six years, she cherished her role alongside colleagues Doug, Tracy, Alison, and Judy, building meaningful friendships and finding joy in her daily work. Dana was a woman of many talents, especially known for her athleticism. She made history as the first girl to play minor hockey in Medicine Hat as a goaltender on the boys’ team, earning numerous trophies and accolades along the way. Her competitive spirit extended to jet ski racing, downhill skiing, baseball, and soccer growing up. More recently, she found joy in long walks with her dogs, the occasional game of pickleball, and wake-surfing on the lake. Dana never let societal expectations define her. She firmly believed girls could do anything, and she proved it every day. If she didn’t know how to do something, she would learn. There truly wasn’t anything she couldn’t do. Dana had a deep love for animals and passion for dogs since the time she could say the word “puppy”! Fifteen years ago, she established the Aveiro Portuguese Water Dog Kennel, where she raised, bred, showed, and earned numerous Canadian championships. Deeply involved in the dog community, she truly valued the friendships she had built over the years. Her family will lovingly care for her three Portuguese Water Dogs, Tia, Bee, and Jetta, who miss her dearly. Above all else, Dana treasured her family. She leaves behind her loving husband, Glenn, and their two beautiful daughters, Madison and Morgan, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her devoted parents, Adam and Terry Mastel; her brother, Doug (Tracy); her sister, Tracy (Guy); brothers-in-law, Dennis (Pat) and Jim; sister-in-law, Marlene (Wally); nephews, Chad (Jody), Adam (Stephanie), Matt (Shelby), Mitchell (Julia), Ryan, William, and Nolan (Desiree); nieces Amber (Kerry) and Alison (Dustin) and their families.
Her family will always remember the special moments they shared: boating on the lake, motorhome camping trips, family dinners, long dog walks, and her witty remarks that never failed to make them laugh. Her down-to-earth spirit, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for her dogs and family will remain in their hearts forever. Though her time with us was far too short, Dana left an unforgettable mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her strength, compassion, and light will continue to shine through the lives she touched. In accordance with Dana’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date with close family and friends. For those wishing to honour Dana’s memory, donations may be made to Brain Injury Canada at braininjurycanada.ca. Garry Brown March 16, 1957 - June 24, 2025 (Age 68)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry Brown on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, at the age of 68 years after a short courageous battle with cancer. Garry was a beloved father, husband, grandfather and friend whose generosity, kindness and gentle spirit touched everyone he met. He was appreciated for his dedication to his family, humor, his integrity and humility. Garry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Tammy Brown; two sons, Robert Brown (Trista Hindes) and Colton Brown plus two amazing, charismatic granddaughters, Brynlee and Brooklyn Brown; as well as numerous family, friends and loved ones. Garry was born in Swift Current, SK on March 16th, 1957, to Anna Brown. Garry’s infectious joy, humor and welcoming spirit drew so many people to him. He was loyal, honest and humble. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and outdoor adventures. His memory will continue to flourish in every sunrise over his favourite lake, in every shared story around a campfire and in each kind act we now extend to others in his name. His greatest gift was his warmth, his unwavering presence in both good times and tough, and his habit of brightening any room with a kind word or joke. He lived a life rich in meaning: guided by compassion, driven by curiosity and defined by a genuine connection to others whether fishing his favourite lake, sharing meals with family, or cheering on his granddaughters, he embraced life with open arms. He was an amazing man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Garry’s life will be held on July 19th, 2025. CATHERINE “KAY” LEAH MARTIN 1934 - 2025
It is with heavy, yet grateful hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Catherine ‘Kay’ Martin, beloved wife of the late Dale Martin Sr., in the wee hours of the morning on June 25, 2025 at the age of 90 years. Mom was a true lady until the very end. Mom was born on December 13, 1934 in Kinkaid Saskatchewan to Michael and Della Mae Salmon. They moved to Spring Coulee before settling in Granum, Alberta. Mom was always proud of her Granum heritage. Every time we would pass the little town Mom would proudly boast of her family owning the Alberta Hotel. Later Mom moved to Lethbridge and was able to attend and graduate from St. Joseph’s High School. She was excited to be able to attend a Catholic School as her Catholic faith was extremely important to her. We remember Mom complaining about some of the students being unkind to the nun instructors. This was devastating for her, and she would always come to the Nun’s defense. Following high school, Mom worked at CJOC Radio. It was here that a strapping young man spotted her and had to make her his wife. On June 2, 1956 Dale and Kay were married and went on to build a family together. Grounded in love, and service to community, Dale and Kay bought Martin Brothers Ltd. from Dale’s dad and uncle, Ben and Harry and later from his brother Derek. They worked hard to build a funeral home that would meet the needs of families in Lethbridge and surrounding areas. It was a calling for them. Independently, Mom was involved in several service groups. She was a member of both Ladies Hospital Auxiliaries (Municipal and St. Michael’s), Beta Sigma Phi, and the Parish Council of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Mom also sang joyfully in both the St. Patrick’s and All Saint’s Parish church choirs. From a young age, Mom discovered her love of music, which carried throughout her life. In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed travel. They cruised to many different countries, but their favorite spot to settle was in Sun City, Arizona where they would enjoy the sun and loved happy hours with friends. There was always a glass of wine or a Harvey Wallbanger for anyone who came by. Mom loved her pool in the desert. She loved bird watching, trimming her rose bushes but most of all she loved her fruit trees. Whenever we went to visit, Mom would wake us up with glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice with a couple cubes of ice to make it cold. Mom and Dad also loved their time at the cottage in Waterton Lakes National Park. Mom loved to pack a lunch for us as we would head out for a day on the lake, often heading down to Goat Haunt south of the border. As a spouse to a Rotarian, every year Rotarians would gather either in Waterton or in Glacier National Park and celebrate our unity between the two countries, “Hands across the border”. Dale and Kay were blessed with three children, Elizabeth (Gordon) Jong, Dale (Colleen) Martin Jr., and Catherine (Brian) Weersink; grandchildren Terrah Jong, Christopher (Carla) Jong, Will Martin, Jack Martin, Adam (Rhiece) Weersink, Austin (Amanda) Weersink, Arik (Jaida Baber) Weersink; great grandchildren Grayson and Aubrey Jong and the latest addition Oliver Weersink; as well as numerous extended family. Besides her loving husband Dale Martin Sr., Kay is predeceased by her parents Michael and Della Mae Salmon; siblings Jessalyn (Woody) Anderson, Jean Lemiski, Maxine Deringer and James “Jimmy” Salmon. Mom has been waiting for God to call her. She often asked, “Has God forgotten me?” No God has not forgotten you Mom. He has been waiting for the right time. Your time has come Mom. Now, go sing with the angels. A Vigil Rights/Prayer Service will be held at 7:00pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations in Kay’s name may be made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, for the Cardiac Centre of Excellence.
